"Golden Gate Corvettes"
Description
In his "Golden Gate Corvettes", Stan has created a tribute to the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Corvette. Stan depicts a San Francisco Bay area outing with owners of '53, '60 and '63 Vettes enjoying a fogless San Francisco summer day. The Corvette's genesis started in 1951 when GM's Chief Designer, the legendary Harley Earl, sketched out preliminary plans for a two-seat sporty car that would sell for less than $2,000. Only 315 were built in 1953 and although 3,640 were produced in 1954, 1,500 of these were unsold by years' end. The Corvette was also hammered by the 1955 introduction of the Ford Thunderbird. Despite its shaky beginnings, the Corvette has endured for more than half a century, and is truly the "All-American" high performance sports car.
