"Dawn on Cannery Row"
Description
Cannery Row, made famous by the writings of John Steinbeck, has an important place in California history. During the golden age of the sardines, Monterey was a reasonably prosperous community, despite the Great Depression. Stan Stokes' painting depicts two fishing boats, the "Eneas" and the "American Flyer". The latter was the boat that Steinbeck took to the Sea of Cortez.
