"Dash for Freedom"
Description
The USS Nevada, the only capital ship to get underway during the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor is the subject of Stan’s dramatic painting. The burning hull of The USS Arizona is in the background as the Nevada, under the command of LCdr. Francis Thomas makes its dash for the channel. Fearing that the Nevada would be sunk in the channel, the decision was made to beach the ship near Hospital Point.
Admiral Thomas Co-Signed Prints: Admiral Francis Thomas, a 1925 graduate of the US Naval Academy, was in command of the USS Nevada during the attack on Pearl Harbor. We are honored that Admiral Thomas, and several other Pearl Harbor attack survivors have co-signed 200 of the 9 x 20 inch Dash for Freedom limited editions. See our price list for details on purchasing one of these heirlooms.
